The power to reform science has been placed in the hands of those of us who in actuality have little power or authority. We work feverishly to influence policy and policy makers in order to ensure that the effort is continued. It is life consuming work. I remember asking the question, after the "glow" of funding began to wane, How can we reform a piece of the system? What we are really after is school reform - changing attitudes, beliefs, culture and ultimately the teaching learning process. To sustain our effort amid changing political landscapes and emphases on English language arts and mathematics literacy requires that we root our effort deep enogh and ealy enough and that we make those literacy connections ina a way that does not compromise the real science that we want done.
