I appreciate your candour (Canadian Spelling)Hugh. It is from people who have been through such challenges that we get better at implementing and sustaining meaningful changes. You have hit on the fundamental papradox of all the projects. I'd be interested in knowing how you have dealt with the trivialization of learning in most standardized tests and the in depth learning of inquiry based science. Have you any evidence that your program helped kids on the standardized tests. As you know the testin wonks argue that students who experience an in depth program can handle standardized tests. I' also be interested in knowing wheher you have been able to engage powerful elements of your community to support the program even after the funding runds out. I think as eduators we are prehpas too altruistic and 'babes in the woods' when it comes to lobbying and mobilizing support for cherished programs for kids.
