Elaine, thanks for this poster. You ask

"What are good strategies for getting schools to recognize that science is as basic as reading and mathematics?" I think this is a difficult one, particularly at the younger grades, and in states where there are high stakes tests for reading and math and not for science. Several projects have reported success by integrating reading and writing into their science program and therefor getting more attention to science while still attending to reading and writing. I know Mike Klentschy's project is doing a lot with this now. It might be interesting to hear from projects that have gone in this direction. Thanks again. -J.
