Hi Elaine! I enjoyed your poster and am intrigued by the similarities in the paths our projects are taking. We too have formed an alliance with our balanced interactive literacy staff and are working to assure that these folks are familiar with our science core and how it can be used to address the literacy goals in our district. Because was have some many FOSS modules, we have asked these folks to highlight how the FOSS stories can be used to develop strategies for reading in the content area. This has been very well received and hopefully will contribute to the sustainability of our efforts. We have also begun to use a collaborative lesson structure (based on the lesson study you mention) this year and have made a video of teachers engaged in the various steps of the process. We'd love to exchange videos with you and continue to share outcomes and ideas about how to keep this process viable for teachers. The initial response from teachers who "risked" trying this has been very positive. Can't wait to share news of your work with the rest of our staff. Thanks. Gail Paulin, Project Director DESERT Project K-8, Tucson.
