Hi Linda,
Your project sounds very exciting and the possibility for sustainability is excellent. My questions are many: What experiences or training do you encourage your teacher leaders to participate in initially? How often do you meet with your leaders? What is the expectation at their school site? What is your turnover rate of leaders?
You have mentioned a syllabi that is shared with your leaders? I am having a hard time picturing what that looks like. Is it more content based?
I ask you this because I am a team member of an LSC in California. Our focus is on teaching mathematics for understanding. You suggest that in the midst of the "test mania" and attention to state standards that you are finding success with teachers who want to make sense of the content and their instruction. We are finding the same with our project. Yet, we are in need of developing a plan for our teacher leadership at the school sites to "sustain" what has been started.
You have also mentioned how your teachers are using Investigations. This is a new possibility for our district to use in the next school year. How did your project introduce it to your schools?
