This is a very interesting story, and I appreciate the thoughtful way you've discussed strengths and weaknesses.
I was caught by your suggestion that a more realistic approach might have been to train a cadre of experienced teachers who would have a long-term effect ("timed-release"!) in the district.
Since I don't think that "training" a teacher is an endpoint that is ever quite reached (more like approached asymptotically, at best), creating a climate of innovation and collegial learning feels like the right way to go.
I do wonder if, given turnover and other pressures for attrition (of time and personnel) within a teacher-trainer cadre, some accompanying structures are needed to make the trainer-cadre renewable and robust enough over time... Have other projects here (or in your experience) found a way to do this that you like?
