This makes me think of the fact that Washington State has the LASER status from the National Science Resources Center. So far we have had two Summer Institutes similar to the ones held at the NSRC at the Smithsonian every summer. There has been substantial growth from the beginning. A group of districts just put in for an LSC as the result of attending Washington State LASER two years ago. Their first Science Resource Teacher has 67 hours in our program.

Having this LASER status has brought a number of districts together. Districts with an earlier start are helping districts just beginning. Also, our State Superintendent, Terry Bergeson, supports the LASER work and wants every district to participate. There is $1.7 million that might pass in the legislature to help provide prof. dev. for LASER Districts. The number of districts participating is growing; this certainly helps our effort.
