Message:
When the project began in 1995 and 1996, we planned to collect student outcome data but we were soon overwhelmed by the other data collection requirements. We included additional open-ended responses to the teacher questionnaires in each of the four years and those teacher responses indicated in a qualitative way that students were engaging in the kind of mathematics we were looking for, but we have no hard data on student outcomes. The school district changed standardized tests three times during the course of the project, and although there are much better ways to show student achievement, the project did not even have achievement scores to compare student outcomes.
