We use Investigations and Connected Mathematics in our professional development. Teachers who were forced into the program by administrators were not excited about the prospect of "another new program." As we began to work with each teacher in his/her classroom, improvement began to occur. Many teachers were resistant to the change because it did not appear that the curriculum "matched" the instrument (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) in which the students and teachers were held accountable. Keep in mind, the climate in Chicago, the teachers and adminstrators in low-performing schools were fired. The students were retained. We did not focus on test scores, the system did.
